Safety Tips

Fire Safety
  • Working smoke detectors should be on each floor of your home, including the attic, in addition to one in each bedroom.
  • Trim shrubs and trees and remove dead, dry leaves that could catch fire.
  • Store combustible items away from your home.
  • Keep candles away from curtains. Regularly cut down candle wicks. Do not let candles burn unattended.
  • Have a fire escape route planed and practice fire drills with children.
  • Stickers are available to notify firefighters of children, elderly, and even pets that may be at risk in your home.
 
Home and Personal Safety
  • Maintain proper exterior lighting. Make sure exterior lights allow you to get from your vehicle, to the entry of your home.
  • Keep all windows and doors locked even when you are home.
  • Do not give house keys. Digital code or code word to temporary workers.
  • Do not leave valuables in sight through windows.
  • Join a neighborhood watch if available in your community.
